Visperas
Crystal Visperas is a 15th-year teacher who has formerly taught in Houston, Texas, International District in Seattle and Sammamish on the east side. Crystal has taught several grades ranging from kindergarten to 5th grade to 11th grade AP Literature and finds her favorite subject to teach is English and American History. Crystal always wanted to be a teacher since a very young age and considers her favorite teachers to be her parents.
Crystal is the Manager of Recruitment and Community Partnerships for the Seattle Teacher Residency and loves learning about candidates and residents’ stories and pathways to becoming a teacher. She seeks not only to diversify the teaching staff in Seattle Public Schools but to find ways for community, mutual aid, protection, and joy for current residents and STR alumni.
She is rooted in educational liberation, healing, abolition, and truth-telling in K-12 curriculum and seeks to find educators actively committed to equity and justice in their classrooms.
Crystal earned her BA in Elementary Education and Childhood Studies from the University of Austin at Texas and her MA in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University.
In her spare time, Crystal likes to listen to podcasts, learn about abolition, watch Marvel movies, and explore the Pacific Northwest.
