Celebrating 10 Years of the Seattle Teacher Residency

Help us celebrate with a gift to the Resident Emergency Fund in honor of a decade of work preparing educators and to continue caring for our future community of educators in Seattle Public Schools.

Seattle Teacher Residency Cohort 10

WOW! It’s been over 10 years, and Seattle Teacher Residency alumni and current residents continue to positively impact students and families of Seattle Public Schools, committed to those furthest from educational justice. In the past decade, STR has prepared almost 250 new educators who began their careers in Seattle Public Schools classrooms. Over 80% of STR graduates remain teaching in SPS in their third year, and over 70% remain in their fifth year.

When the work of building STR began in 2012, the Design Team could only imagine STR would be where it is today. What is learned from alumni, residents, district leaders and external partners over the years is that they greatly value the community and collaboration created from being part of the residency. The community cultivated within STR is an important element to keeping educators connected and supported in the profession.

In celebration of 10 years, we come to you with a small ask. For us to continue caring for our community, consider helping to create a $10,000 emergency fund for our current and future residents.

In 2023-24, we will have up to 30 future educators in the residency. Here’s what this fund and your gift could do:

  • $10 – lunch for a resident facing food insecurity
  • $50 – emergency medical need
  • $100 – fixing a flat tire on the way to school
  • $1,000 – a month of daycare as a single parent

Any gift, regardless of size, can make a difference in getting basic needs such as these met while a full time graduate student.

Your participation in making a gift and/or sharing with your online community is invaluable as we enter this new chapter in the program’s history. Together, with your support, we look forward to impacting the next decade (and beyond) of students and educators, always with a focus on educational justice and racial equity.

Thank you for your support!
