Designed as an interactive web tool, the Student Services Directory is proving to be a valuable resource for families and school staff looking for information about programs and services in Seattle Public Schools.
To assure that the Directory has up-to-date information, the Alliance maintains regular communication with service providers to reinforce the importance of keeping their listings current. In 2012, the Directory will be translated into the four most common minority languages spoken by Seattle Public Schools’ students: Chinese, Somali, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
After spending nearly two years on its development, the Alliance for Education launched the Student Services Directory in September 2011. This tool is aimed to achieve two goals: (1) identify the community-based organizations providing services to students, in an effort to improve planning and coordination; and (2) improve students’ and families’ awareness of available services.
With support from USA Funds and other funders, the Alliance surveyed hundreds of providers, compiling responses in a user-friendly utility. While updating is still underway, the database already contains information about hundreds of organizations offering school-based and off-site services including tutoring, mentoring, health, counseling, enrichment, arts and many others. Students, families, school staff, and others can search to find who is working in and with neighborhood schools and the services they are providing.
Providers of services to students attending Seattle Public Schools who wish to be included in the Directory may contact Mark Taylor.
