Sara Morris to step down as President and CEO of Alliance for Education summer of 2016
Alliance for Education President and CEO Sara Morris announced she will step down from her role as President and CEO this summer.
“The past six years leading the Alliance for Education have been the highlight of my professional career, hands down,” said Morris. “I have always felt humbled and honored to hold this job, and that feeling is magnified as I close this chapter and look forward. The Alliance holds a unique place in the Seattle landscape; for over 20 years it has adapted while staying true to its core of promoting opportunity for students in our public schools. I have such respect and affection for our board, staff and partners and can’t wait to see the organization scale new heights in the years to come.”
“Sara’s leadership over the past six years has been exceptional,” said Jane Broom, Alliance for Education Board Chair. “She is a true visionary and advocate for the kids in our public schools. Under her leadership, the organization set and achieved ambitious goals, set a tone of high expectations, and served as a voice and champion for public education. Her passion and sense of mission are evident. We on the Board of Directors thank Sara for her service and her contributions to the Alliance for Education and our community. We look forward to seeing her continue to make an imprint on Seattle for many years.”
Morris and the Board of Directors are conducting a managed transition, including a board search to identify Morris’ successor. Between now and early summer, Morris and the organization look forward to participating, along with the district and other community partners, in the Mayor’s Education Summit, as well as celebrating alongside hundreds of friends and partners at the Alliance for Education’s annual Community Breakfast on May 3, 2016.
