advocacy
Our advocacy efforts are primarily local in nature, focusing exclusively on issues facing Seattle Public Schools. In 2010 the Alliance founded the Our Schools Coalition in partnership with the League of Education Voters, the Technology Alliance and 32 other citywide organizations and civic leaders. Members of the Our Schools Coalition united to successfully advocate for significant changes to the Seattle teachers’ collective bargaining agreement in support of student achievement. Please see the one-page overview and case study for more detail.
The Alliance is also a member of Excellent Schools Now, a broad coalition of education, business and community-based organizations working at the state level to address legislative changes needed to achieve meaningful education reform that increases student achievement. In this effort we join nearly 40 other organizations across Washington state to advocate for policy changes that will close the achievement gap and prepare students for college and career.

“Education, then, beyond all other devices of human origin, is the great equalizer of the conditions of men, the balance-wheel of the social machinery.”
