This position reports to the Director of Educational Investments for the Alliance for Education, a private non-profit organization dedicated to building financial and community support for public education in Seattle. The Alliance for Education is affiliated with the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce; staff are employees of the Chamber, participating fully in Chamber benefit plans.
The Grants Manager and the educational investment staff will work together to support community, corporate, and foundation investments in Seattle Public Schools (SPS).
Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities for this position are to support investments into Seattle Public Schools through preparation of proposals and grant applications and all associated work; duties include:
• Work with the district investment team to strategize key areas of support in alignment with Seattle Public Schools’ strategic plan
• Identify potential funding opportunities from private foundations and public sector grant distribution sources
• Research, strategize, and plan proposals and grant applications to support the Alliance’s investments in SPS
• Manage process of grant writing; build comprehensive calendar for specific components of grant-funded projects and initiatives, such as timelines and required program evaluations
• Participate in budget discussions; provide budgetary recommendations to position proposals more effectively
• Work with investment team to plan outcome measurements and securing of data and other required information
• Actively participate in the cultivation and stewardship of funders
• Work with internal staff in prospecting to coordinate approaches to individuals, foundations, government agencies, and others
• In partnership with the Director, develop and adopt goals for annual proposal activity
• Analyze market and competition; identify external challenges and opportunities
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree with 3-5 years of related experience and a proven track record in grant writing
• Ability to write clearly and concisely, to adapt writing style as necessary, to present data in understandable forms, and to read and interpret complex information
• Knowledge of institutional funding sources in education
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively internally and externally
• Demonstrated experience maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Proficiency in researching, interpreting, and analyzing data, ability to translate complex data and communicate effectively with non-educator audiences
• Creativity, resourcefulness, innovative approaches and ideas
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Raiser’s Edge, or similar donor databases and internet research applications
• Demonstrated ability to improve processes, promote quality and increase productivity
• Flexibility, including ability to adapt strategy to address changing environment of public education, community support
• Strong commitment to the Alliance for Education’s mission
• High level of personal and professional integrity
This position requires an individual to work independently, quickly, and effectively in a multi-task environment, to be self motivated and goal oriented. Must be able to perform tasks that involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Detail oriented and able to work well both independently, and in a team environment.
