How does the Alliance decide which initiatives to support?
The Alliance for Education works closely with the Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer of Seattle Public Schools, as well as other school district leaders, to determine what initiatives to support. Our Educational Investments Task Force, composed of both board members and non-board community members, looks for ways that the Alliance can help create system-wide changes that will help students learn.
Is the Alliance for Education part of Seattle Public Schools?
No. The Alliance for Education is independent of the school district. That said, we work in close partnership with the school district to determine how we can best help students succeed.
Does the Alliance have scholarship funds and awards for students and teachers?
The Alliance has three funds and awards available to teachers and students: the Covey Award for Teaching, the Swain Student Award, and the Swain Teaching Award. We also give the Foster Award to outstanding secondary school principals. Visit our Endowments and Awards Web page to learn more.
Does the Alliance work directly with children and schools to improve academics?
Typically no. We partner with other organizations, Seattle Public Schools the first and foremost among those, that provide direct services to students.

Who funds the Alliance?
We receive funding from individuals, businesses, and foundations and through our annual breakfast and auction. Read our Annual Report to learn more.
